ACTOR - DIRECTOR - COACH

For as long as I can remember, I've been fascinated by people—how they move through the world, what they notice, what they overlook, and the quiet moments that reveal something true about who they are. That curiosity led me to acting, and over time to directing, coaching, and teaching. While those paths may seem different, they've always grown from the same place: a desire to better understand human behavior and truthful storytelling.

I earned my MFA in Acting from Brandeis University, where I received a full-tuition scholarship and teaching assistantship. After graduate school, I worked off-Broadway and in regional theatre before being invited to serve as an Artist-in-Residence at Clemson University, where I taught workshops in Acting and Movement for the Performer while serving as Fight Director for their production of Romeo & Juliet.

 

My interest in teaching began years earlier, inspired by remarkable mentors at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire and later at Brandeis. Clemson gave me the opportunity to begin discovering my own voice as a teacher, deepening my understanding of what it means to help actors discover truthful, lived experience and shaping the direction of my career.

 

Over the next three decades, I devoted much of my time to coaching actors, directing for the stage and screen, and exploring the creative process alongside thousands of students.

More recently, I began applying actor training to coaching public speakers, which has been incredibly fullfilling.

 

One of the most rewarding chapters of my career was creating Teen Street Films, a twelve-year program that brought young actors together to train, improvise, and develop original short films inspired by their own experiences. Watching those stories emerge through collaboration continually reinforced my belief that truthful performances grow from genuine curiosity and lived experience.

 

In recent years, I've returned to acting, appearing opposite Vicky Krieps in The Wall, directed by Philippe Van Leeuw, and more recently Sébastien Wieleman's Silence of Waves and Brian O'Connor's Measured in Thread.

 

Whether I'm acting, directing, coaching, or writing Field Notes, I'm still asking the same questions I've always asked:

 

What changes a person?

 

What captures their attention?

 

What allows us to experience another human being truthfully?

I'm still learning. Every rehearsal, every coffee shop, every conversation, and every walk in nature reminds me that the world is endlessly generous to those willing to pay attention.
